1. The one who believes, and thus loves and obeys, has eternal life abiding in them — Right Now — in the form of the Spirit of God!
“We know that we have passed from death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him…” (1 john 3:14-15)
“…And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.” (1 John 3:23-24)
Paul echos the same thing in Philippians 3:20-21:
“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.”
2. How does the believer draw near to God with confidence? By knowing that there is no condemnation through belief in Christ. Help is found right there.
“By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.” (1 John 3:19-22)
“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Heb. 4:16)
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)
“My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:2)
“Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 124:8)
