“As you come to Him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 2:4-5)
“…And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, ‘Teacher, rebuke your disciples.’ He answered, ‘I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.’ ” (Lk.19:39-40)
– We are living standing stones placed here to point to God’s faithfulness in all we do. We are evidence of God’s saving love. He points to us, when His character and conduct are questioned. “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?” (Job 1:8) When the world seems cruel, he points to you, believer, as a testimony of his continual love for humanity. When grace and mercy seem like foreign concepts, he calls on you to live out the cross of Jesus Christ. When each turns to his own way, He helps you to die to yourself and follow, proving that there is vibrant life in the path of obedience. Can you feel the weight of that glorious mission? What kind of picture does your life paint of God? Cry out! Tell of His wondrous deeds from day to day! Or, the stones will do it for you.
-Watch out for individualistic tendencies in your walk with God. Remember, no house is built of one stone. You and I are stones, but WE are a temple, a community. WE, together, offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Christ Jesus.
